Healthful Key West
The Duval Crawl has its allure for visitors in need of a wild and crazy live on the edge experience. Bars and pubs and parties and music, adult silliness and shenanigans.
The month of September welcomes one of the most fantastic, largest festivals of its kind in Southwest Florida. Island Hopper Songwriter Fest is a 10 day event with performances (mostly free) scheduled on Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach.
We get to answer a long list of questions from our guests. And the questions go from the mild to the wild!! Do we allow parrots?? (Yep) Can we take SCUBA Tanks? (Nope) Will the Captain marry us? (Sorry, but another no) The list goes on and on....
Pirating in Florida
Florida is well-known as a haven for pirates. The history behind Florida’s pirates is quite fascinating….
90 Miles to Cuba
Cubans have been living in Key West for more than 150 years. Since Ponce de Leon landed in 1513, Florida and the Florida Keys really belonged to Spain….with a few occasions when France and England laid their claim. In 1815 Spain sececed Florida to the United States.
Want to visit Florida in the summer, but worried about hurricanes….. statistically, there is an extremely low risk that a storm will impact your vacation.
On average, only one or two will make landfall on the US east coast each year. Since 1851 (166 years), 37 have made direct hits on Florida. There is little to no correlation between the total number of storms and those that make landfall in any given season. For example, 2010 was an extremely busy season, with 19 named storms and 12 hurricanes. Yet not one hurricane and only one tropical storm, made landfall in the US that year.
Hurricanes are a fact of life in Florida, even before the first report of a tropical cyclone in 1523 that struck off the west coast of the state. Hurricane season is recognized as June 1st through November 30th with September being peak, followed by August, October, July & November each being about the same for activity.
