LGBTQ+ Events in Key West: Pride, Tropical Heat & WomenFest

Updated on: Oct 30, 2026 3:29:33 PM

Key West has never needed much encouragement to celebrate individuality.

The island's welcoming spirit, colorful personality and long-established LGBTQ+ community have helped make Key West a favorite destination for LGBTQ+ travelers from around the world.

And while Key West Pride may be the best-known celebration, it isn't the only major LGBTQ+ event on the island's calendar.

The Key West Business Guild, which has promoted LGBTQ+ travel to Key West since 1978, produces three signature celebrations that offer distinctly different ways to experience the island: Key West Pride, Tropical Heat and WomenFest.

Each has its own audience and personality, but together they reflect something much bigger about Key West: this isn't a destination that celebrates its LGBTQ+ community and visitors for just one week of the year.

In 2027, the celebrations include:

  • Key West Pride — June 2–6, 2027
  • Tropical Heat — August 11–15, 2027
  • WomenFest — September 1–5, 2027

Whether you're looking for a community-wide Pride celebration, a getaway geared toward gay men or an event centered around women, there's a Key West celebration waiting for you.

And when it's time to get here, Key West Express can make the journey part of the getaway.

Three LGBTQ+ Celebrations, Three Key West Experiences

Key West's connection to LGBTQ+ travel goes well beyond individual events.

The Key West Business Guild has been promoting Key West as an LGBTQ+ destination since 1978. The organization also operates the Gay Key West Visitor Center on Duval Street and produces events throughout the year supporting the island's LGBTQ+ community and tourism.

Things to do in Key West

Pride, Tropical Heat and WomenFest are three of its signature celebrations.

They aren't three versions of the same festival.

Key West Pride is the broadest of the three, bringing together the LGBTQ+ community, visitors, friends, families and allies.

Tropical Heat turns up the temperature in August with a multi-day event primarily created for gay men.

WomenFest follows in September with a celebration centered around women, combining entertainment, social events, activities and opportunities to connect.

Each offers a different reason to experience LGBTQ+ Key West.

Key West Pride: June 2–6, 2027

Key West Pride returns June 2–6, 2027, bringing several days of celebrations to locations throughout the island.

Pride events traditionally range from entertainment and parties to community gatherings, activities on the water, special events and the annual Pride Parade.

But Pride in Key West is about more than filling an event schedule.

The celebration fits naturally into a destination where individuality and acceptance have long been part of the island's personality.

Key West's One Human Family philosophy captures much of that spirit.

Visitors will find Pride activities throughout Old Town, including along and around Duval Street, making it easy to combine scheduled events with restaurants, shopping, attractions, nightlife and other Key West experiences.

Don't Miss the Key West Pride Parade

The Pride Parade is one of the signature events of the celebration.

Color, music, costumes, community organizations and plenty of Key West personality come together for one of Pride week's largest gatherings.

The route, time and other details can change from year to year, so visitors should check the current official Pride schedule as the event approaches.

But whether you're participating or watching from the sidelines, the parade is an experience worth building into your Pride itinerary.

Pride Doesn't End With the Parade

One of the advantages of spending several days in Key West for Pride is the variety.

You might spend part of the day at a Pride event and another part snorkeling, exploring Old Town, visiting a museum, shopping or relaxing by the water.

As sunset approaches, head toward Mallory Square, take a sunset sail or get ready for an evening along Duval Street.

Pride becomes part of the Key West vacation rather than replacing it.

Tropical Heat: August 11–15, 2027

If Pride is Key West's broad LGBTQ+ community celebration, Tropical Heat offers something different.

Tropical Heat returns August 11–15, 2027.

Produced by the Key West Business Guild, the five-day event is geared primarily toward gay men ages 21 and older, bringing together pool parties, themed gatherings, activities on the water, nightlife and adult-oriented entertainment.

The result is a more adult-focused and social Key West getaway.

Days on the Water, Nights in Key West

Tropical Heat isn't limited to nightlife.

Key West's water is part of the experience, too.

Programs can include snorkeling excursions and other on-the-water activities alongside pool parties and daytime gatherings.

That makes it easy to combine the event with the things that make Key West such an appealing tropical destination.

Spend the morning snorkeling or on the water. Explore Old Town in the afternoon. Then get ready for the evening's Tropical Heat activities.

Our Key West Snorkeling Guide and Destination Dive: Key West's Underwater World can help you find even more ways to get out on the water while you're here.

Tropical Heat Is Made for an Overnight Getaway

Tropical Heat is particularly well suited to an overnight Key West trip.

Many activities take place later in the day and at night, so staying on the island gives you considerably more freedom to experience the event.

It also means you can slow down.

Instead of trying to fit Key West into a few hours, make Tropical Heat part of a longer island escape.

WomenFest: September 1–5, 2027

WomenFest returns September 1–5, 2027, bringing another personality entirely to Key West's LGBTQ+ event calendar.

Produced by the Key West Business Guild and centered around women, the multi-day celebration combines entertainment, social gatherings, live performances, activities on and around the water, sunset experiences and opportunities to connect.

WomenFest also extends Key West's major LGBTQ+ event calendar beyond the traditional summer months and into September.

Make WomenFest Your Own Key West Getaway

One of the strengths of WomenFest is the variety of experiences surrounding it.

Programming can include concerts and live entertainment, parties, creative events, pool gatherings, sailing and snorkeling excursions, sunset activities and other social events.

That means WomenFest doesn't have to be one particular kind of vacation.

Fill the schedule if that's what you want.

Or don't.

Spend part of the day at an event, disappear to the beach for a few hours, browse galleries and shops around Old Town, meet friends for dinner and reconnect with the celebration later.

It's Key West. You get to set the pace.

Which Key West LGBTQ+ Event Fits Your Trip?

All three events celebrate LGBTQ+ Key West, but they aren't interchangeable.

Key West Pride

Choose Pride if you're looking for the island's broadest LGBTQ+ celebration.

Pride brings together LGBTQ+ residents and visitors, friends, families and allies for several days of community events, entertainment and celebrations.

It's also a natural choice for first-time visitors who want to experience LGBTQ+ Key West while still having plenty of opportunities to explore the rest of the island.

Tropical Heat

Tropical Heat is geared primarily toward gay men looking for a social, adult-oriented Key West getaway.

Pool parties, nightlife, water activities and themed events give Tropical Heat a personality very different from Pride.

Because much of the experience extends into the evening, an overnight stay makes it considerably easier to enjoy.

WomenFest

WomenFest centers its programming around women, community, entertainment and shared experiences.

It combines scheduled events with everything else Key West offers, making it easy to turn the celebration into a longer island getaway.

Why Choose Just One?

There is no rule saying you have to.

Pride, Tropical Heat and WomenFest happen at different times and provide distinctly different experiences.

For visitors who already love Key West, they provide three very good reasons to come back.

Things to Do Between Events

However full your event schedule becomes, leave some room for Key West itself.

Explore Duval Street

Duval Street runs through the heart of Old Town and is home to restaurants, entertainment, shops, galleries and nightlife.

It's also closely connected to Key West's LGBTQ+ community. Our Complete Guide to Duval Street can help you decide where to start and what else to explore nearby.

Explore the Historic Seaport

The Key West Historic Seaport and Key West Bight is an easy place to combine waterfront dining, boats, shopping and a walk along the harbor.

It's particularly convenient for Key West Express passengers because our Key West terminal at 100 Grinnell Street puts you near the Historic Seaport when you arrive.

Get Out on the Water

You came to an island. Take advantage of it.

Snorkeling, diving, kayaking, sailing, fishing and other watersports can all become part of your getaway.

If you're staying several days, consider keeping at least one morning or afternoon open for the water rather than scheduling every hour around organized events.

Find Your Key West Beach

Key West beaches each have their own personality.

Spend some time at Smathers Beach, Higgs Beach or Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park when you need a break from the event schedule.

Experience Mallory Square

The Mallory Square Sunset Celebration is one of those Key West traditions that works with almost any trip.

Street performers, artists and visitors gather along the waterfront as sunset approaches.

Then, once the sun goes down, you can decide where the evening takes you next.

Experience Key West After Dark

Pride, Tropical Heat and WomenFest also provide excellent reasons to explore Key West at night.

Duval Street nightlife is the obvious starting point, but evening possibilities also include live entertainment, sunset cruises, ghost tours and other after-dark activities.

Our Things to Do in Key West at Night guide can help you plan beyond the official event schedule.

Visit the Gay Key West Visitor Center

If you'd like more information about LGBTQ+ Key West while you're on the island, the Gay Key West Visitor Center is operated by the Key West Business Guild at 808 Duval Street.

The Visitor Center provides information about LGBTQ+ businesses, events, attractions and other things happening around Key West.

It's also a useful resource if you're attending Pride, Tropical Heat or WomenFest and want current information while you're on the island.

Getting Around During Pride, Tropical Heat & WomenFest

One of the advantages of these events is that many activities take place in or near Old Town.

Walking can be one of the easiest ways to move between locations, particularly around Duval Street.

Taxis, rideshare services, bicycles and other transportation options are available when an event is farther away—or when the Key West heat makes walking less appealing.

Our How to Get Around Key West guide can help you plan before you arrive.

And if you're traveling aboard Key West Express, you'll arrive at 100 Grinnell Street, near the Historic Seaport and within easy reach of Old Town.

Day Trip or Overnight Stay?

You can experience portions of these celebrations during a day trip aboard Key West Express.

But Pride, Tropical Heat and WomenFest are multi-day events, and an overnight stay opens considerably more possibilities.

Visiting for the Day

Choose your priorities.

Attend a daytime event, explore Old Town, have lunch, visit Duval Street and enjoy some of the island before returning to the terminal.

Always compare event times with the current Key West Express return sailing before making reservations or purchasing tickets for a particular activity.

Staying Overnight

If the event itself is one of the main reasons for your trip, an overnight stay is usually the better fit.

Evening entertainment, nightlife, dinners, parties and other activities often continue beyond the Key West Express return sailing.

Staying overnight also gives you time to experience more of Key West outside the event.

Make it a weekend. Or stay a little longer.

Plan Your LGBTQ+ Key West Getaway

Individual event schedules change from year to year.

Use this guide to choose the celebration that interests you, then check the Key West Business Guild and current official event information for schedules, admission requirements, tickets and any age restrictions. Be sure to check our schedule and current fares and start planning that Key West getaway you deserve.

That's especially important for Tropical Heat and individual WomenFest activities, where particular events may be age-restricted, ticketed or intended for specific audiences.

Once you know which events belong on your calendar, leave some room for Key West itself.

Sometimes the unscheduled part becomes the part you remember most.

Celebrate Key West Your Way

Pride. Tropical Heat. WomenFest.

Three celebrations. Three different experiences. One island where individuality has long been part of the personality.

Come for the parade.

Come for the parties.

Come for the water, the friendships, the entertainment or simply the chance to spend a few days enjoying Key West your way.

Then make the journey part of the getaway.

Travel aboard Key West Express from Fort Myers Beach, enjoy the trip across the water and step ashore at 100 Grinnell Street near the Historic Seaport—ready to experience LGBTQ+ Key West.
